- Abstract
This document is a reply to concerns raised about a multicenter trial on the effect of anterior quadratus lumborum block on morphine consumption in minimally invasive colorectal surgery. The authors address concerns about the control group and the use of placebo-placed blocks, explaining their decision to use a double-blind trial design. They also discuss the dosing of local anesthetics and the exclusion of local anesthetic port infiltration after surgery. The authors conclude that fascial plane blocks require sufficient volume to be effective and that a block that adds no additional benefit may be more of a liability than a contribution to patient care.
