- Abstract
This study aimed to evaluate a population of Japanese-Brazilians (Xanthoderm) on the subjective concepts of facial aesthetic -- aesthetically pleasing, acceptable and unpleasant --, considering the perception of different groups of evaluators; in Japanese-Brazilians which were considered pleasant, a numerical facial analysis of this profile was performed. This study evaluated a sample of Japanese-Brazilian individuals with balanced facial muscle structure, represented by passive lip seal, and with no orthodontic treatment or prior facial surgery. The sample consisted of 82 subjects (42 women and 40 men), evaluated by five groups: caucasians orthodontists, Japanese-Brazilian orthodontists and oral and maxillofacial surgeons regarding facial attractiveness. To verify the agreement between examiners, the Kendall coefficient was used. And for the comparison between groups, the chi-square test and the proportions test with a significance level of 5% (p < .05) were conducted. Most individuals were considered aesthetically acceptable. In aesthetically displeasing individuals, the nose and chin were the structures that most impacted their faces. When compared to Caucasian, Japanese-Brazilians had a greater protrusion of the upper and lower lip. The facial convexity was lower in Japanese-Brazilians. The excess of the lower third of the average third of the face was higher in caucasian Brazilians.
