- Abstract
The aim of this study was not only to identify how the teachers perceived the integration of the School Sports in the Educational Project of the school, but also to determine if their perceptions changed according to their involvement in management and coordination tasks. An anonymous quiz has been elaborated and 255 (98%) Physical Education teachers with specific tasks in the school sports of the 5th to the 9th levels of the school system of the Autonomous Region of Madeira have been asked to answer it. These teachers belonged to three different groups: the Coordinators of the School Sports, the Coordinators of Internal Activities and the Managers of a Team or a Group of Players. It has been statistically processed using the descriptive analysis of percent indicators and the Square-Qui test, which has been useful to determine if differences among the three groups had occurred. The obtained results show that the specific job each teacher has within the School Sports has no meaningful effect on the way they evaluate the integration of this area in the Educational Project of the school, since the determined validity level has exceeded 0.05 (p = 0.177). The general results show that 46% of those enquired think that school sports are integrated in the Educational Project of the school. However, a considerable number of them (35.7%) think that it is not integrated and 17.5% said they have no opinion or knowledge of this matter. The results also show that in 75% of the schools the Coordinator of the School Sports has no seat at the pedagogic council. It was also verified that about half of the teachers preferred not to reveal their opinion about how dynamic their school has been in trying to find partnerships.
