- Abstract
This article presents the analysis, practical implementation and experimental studies on a Silicon Carbide (SiC) MOSFET-based 2-phase interleaved synchronous Buck converter using both non-coupled and coupled inductors. The advantages of interleaving over conventional non-interleaved buck converter and the role of inductor coupling are objectively established. Studies have been conducted on the variations of inductor current ripple magnitude with number of interleaved phases and operating duty ratio. Parameter estimation and modelling of inductor core losses are presented and used to calculate the total losses and efficiency for 100 kHz switching and validated by experiments. A maximum efficiency of 95 % has been achieved while switching at 250 kHz at 650 W load. The output current ripple is at 500 kHz switching, though the switching losses are for 250 kHz.
