- Abstract
The article discusses the Batavia ship tragedy and the representation of the shipwreck in novels. The ship was set to Batavia, Indonesia, and belonged to the Dutch East India Company (VOC). It is noted that the first detailed account of the shipwreck and its consequences was written by West Australian novelist Henrietta Drake-Brockman in her novel "Voyage to Disaster ". Topics discussed are psychoanalytic historiography and radical Anabaptism.
