- Abstract
The army during the time of Benito Juárez is a complicated subject, especially during the Reform and the Second Empire. Generally, the armies that fought from 1854 to 1867 were organized according to two models that emerged at the end of the 18th century. At that time, disagreement over the structure of the armies reflected two different models of the State: One tended to strengthen provincial autonomy with the organization of militias, while the other tended to emphasize centralized operation of the permanent army.
