- Abstract
Extrapyramidal side effects (EPS), which are induced by antipsychotic agents, are among the major factors that disturb the patient's adaptation to treatment. Especially side effects, like acute dystonia during the early days of the cure or akathisia during the later phases, cause patients and their families to break down the treatment. Recent research, which points out that new antipsychotic agents cause less EPS than typical ones do, leads newer agents to be the first choice. However, as clinical use of new antipsychotic agents become widespread, it is reported that they were not that innocent in terms of side effects. It is known that aripiprazole, a new-generation atypical antipsychotic drug that is a dopamine system stabilizer, has a low propensity to cause EPS. We are going to present a case with distinct symptoms of acute dystonia and then akathisia caused by aripiprazole in a patient.
