- Abstract
An essay which profiles Karl Lueger, a protector of the common man, a proponent of social justice and the mayor of Vienna, Austria from 1897 to 1910, is presented. Lueger was a symbolic figure, a twentieth-century populist population who fought for ordinary people and mastered the arts of making propaganda, courting nationalism and promoting the public welfare. He blended nationalism, religion and socialism into his propaganda work, having discovered the enormous power of collective will.
