- Abstract
The article presents information on a study which discusses to replace the twenty years old economic zoology course at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Blacksburg, Virginia. The course has become traditional because of old technique--lecture-laboratory teaching. A study of relationship between the freshman course in general biology and economic zoology showed that the latter could effectively supplement the freshman course through practical application of biological principles. According to a survey conducted among the heads of the economic zoology department, most of them think that the proposed courses should be designed in such a way that it may help in introducing the advanced professional courses, recognize the objectives of the general education, aim at solving the practical problems and provide meaningful experiences to the students.
