- Abstract
The article discusses about the poachers in the nineteenth century theatrical productions. Topics of discussion includes during a performance of George Dibdin Pitt's Susan Hopley; or, The Vicissitudes of a Servant Girl, Eliza Vincent, was showered with coins. The ruined farmer in Douglas Jerrold's The Rent Day was also offered money by one overly literal spectator. The reliance on audience knowledge and pre-engagement, the Game-Law melodramas were form of cultural exchange.
