- Authors
Menard, Orville D.
- Abstract
The article features the French river men and fur traders, or voyageurs, who contributed to the achievements of American explorers Meriwether Lewis and William Clark who led the Corps of Discovery in navigating the Missouri River. It explains their essential roles as interpreters of Indian peoples and through whom Lewis and Clark conducted commerce with various tribes. Among them were George Drouillard, Pierre Cruzatte and François Labiche, who were half-French and half-Indians.
