- Abstract
This article discusses the concept of the Fragility Index (FI) and its application in evaluating the robustness of research findings in meta-analyses. The FI represents the minimum number of patients whose status would need to be changed to render statistically significant results non-significant. In the context of a meta-analysis on postoperative sore throat, the authors calculated a Fragility Index of 12, indicating that the observed association between intervention groups and the incidence of postoperative sore throat is robust. The inclusion of the Fragility Index in meta-analyses contributes to transparency and a better understanding of the statistical robustness of findings. However, it is important to interpret the results within the broader context of clinical relevance and quantitative analysis. The use of the Fragility Index enhances evidence-based medicine and improves patient care and healthcare decision-making.
