- Title
MARRIED IN GREEN: A COMMON SOURCE FOR SCOTT AND DICKENS?
- Authors
Myer, Michael Grosvenor
- Abstract
The article compares the emphasis on the symbol of green color in the literary work of two novelists, Charles Dickens and Sir Walter Scott. In Dickens novel "Nicholas Nickleby," the protagonist descends uninvited on the wedding to an unsuitable rival of the girl he loves, delays the marriage, and literally carries off the bride. In the same way, Sir Walter Scott's Young Locinvar in the fifth canto of his novel "Marmion" follows the same tread. In both the cases the female protagonists were wearing green color attire.
