- Authors
Adams, Ann-Charlotte Gavel
- Abstract
The article analyzes the short story "Jacob lutte" (Jacob Wrestles) by August Strindberg. Particular focus is given to the story's setting in an alternate version of the 6th arrondissement of Paris, France. According to the author, the story can be characterized as a precursor to the surrealist movement. It is suggested that the surreal setting allowed Strindberg to explore the narrator's inner religious struggle. Writer André Breton is also discussed.
