Creative Manipulations of Outlaw Narrative in Aleksis Kivi's Seitsemän veljestä.
- Authors
Schaad, Eric
- Abstract
A literary criticism is presented of the 1870 novel "Seitsemän veljestä" ("Seven Brothers"), by Finnish author Aleksis Kivi, particularly focusing on transgression and outlaw narrative in the story. It is argued that the novel touches upon the characteristics and themes that are typical of robber romanticism. The work of scholar Pirjo Lyytikäinen and her book "Vimman villitytpojat," a study of Kivi's novel, are considered. Walter Scott's novel about the Scottish outlaw Rob Roy is discussed.
