- Title
A FEW REFLECTIONS ON NARRATIVE STRUCTURES OF EPIC TEXTS: A CASE EXAMPLE OF BAMBARA AND FULANI EPICS.
- Authors
Seydou, Christiane
- Abstract
The article focuses on the narrative structure of epic texts from the Fulani and Bambara peoples of West Africa. It further mentions the criteria that have led the author to classify them as epics. Music is an essential feature common to all epics in West Africa. in fact, the classificatory term used for epics in these regions is often identical to the name of the musical instrument that accompanies their performance. The fundamental role of music in the performance of Fulani and Bambara epics is closely, allied to the importance of the griot and to the significance of personal mottos in these societies.
