- Abstract
Agnieszka Friedrich's book, "Bolesław Prus and the Jews," explores the views of Polish writer Bolesław Prus on the Jewish question. The book primarily focuses on Prus's journalistic work and social criticism, rather than his fictional output. Friedrich examines Prus's social views and his perception of Jews and foreigners in general. She also analyzes Prus's take on traditional aspects of the Jewish question, such as the socio-economic position of Jews, and his views on assimilation, modern antisemitism, and the Zionist movement. Despite some minor shortcomings, the book is a valuable contribution to Polish literary and intellectual history studies.
