- Abstract
A úlcera de córnea é uma enfermidade oftálmica de alta incidência em cavalos, que atinge diversas faixas etárias, causa edema palpebral, dor ocular, secreção ocular mucopurulenta e, quando não diagnosticada e tratada precocemente, pode levar à cegueira. Buscando alternativas de tratamento, tem-se observado resultados promissores na literatura utilizando células-tronco mesenquimais no tratamento de úlcera de córnea em cavalos. As células-tronco mesenquimais são células multipotentes que têm o potencial de se diferenciarem em qualquer tipo celular, auxiliando na reparação tecidual por diversos mecanismos que ainda não estão muito bem estabelecidos. Este trabalho, portanto, tem como objetivo apresentar o resultado do uso de célulastronco mesenquimais no tratamento de úlcera de córnea. Foi atendida uma égua, com 14 anos de idade, utilizada na prática de salto, com epífora e fotofobia em olho esquerdo havia 15 dias. Ao teste de fluoresceína foi possível observar úlcera de 1 cm de diâmetro no olho esquerdo e, como ela não colaborou com o tratamento tópico, optou-se pela administração de células-tronco mesenquimais pelas vias subconjuntival e tópica. No momento da aplicação foram instilados colírio anestésico e sedação. Posteriormente, com o auxílio de um scalp 23G, administrou-se 10 milhões de células-tronco mesenquimais. Durante o dia do tratamento, aplicou-se colírio de células-tronco mesenquimais para controle de dor e administrou-se anti-inflamatório. Após sete dias o animal foi reavaliado através do teste de fluoresceína, que deu negativo, confirmando o resultado positivo do uso da terapia no tratamento de úlcera de córnea.
