- Abstract
This article discusses the prevalence of knee injuries, specifically anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries, in high-performance sports. The research on ACL injuries is relatively new, with the most studied sport being football. ACL reconstruction registries have been implemented to gather data on these injuries, but many of them are not sports-specific. ACL reconstruction is generally considered safe and effective, but failures and recurrent injuries are not uncommon, especially in young athletes. The article also explores the debate on the ideal graft type for ACL reconstruction and emphasizes the need for sports-specific studies and approaches to improve prevention and treatment.
