The objectives of this research are: to highlight some aspects related to films and their emergence; to analyze the contributions of film as an instrument for teaching; to suggest a list of films with themes that can be worked on in schools; to bring examples of research that applied films in school practice to show their results. Methodologically, the research in question is characterized as bibliographic research, with a qualitative approach, a basic and exploratory nature as to the objetive. For the data collection, the search platform "Google Academic" was used with the descriptors "film in school", "films and teaching" and "films and themes and education". The criterion for inclusion of research was scientific works (experience reports, articles and CBTs) published in scientific magazines, in university repositories or conference annals, in Portuguese, without any time cut. Therefore, other works that did not fit these descriptions were disregarded for analysis. Data analysis was performed through content analysis. The results show that the films are instruments used for years in the school environment, and the national ones are obligatory by law to be worked in the school. The contributions of its use are many, to quote: motivation of the students to participate in the classes, fun learning, better assimilation and understanding of the contents, possibility of working different themes and contents, among others. On the question of the themes, in this study it was suggested some films followed by various themes that can be worked on in the classes.
