- Abstract
In the present paper, the results of the mechanical properties of new composite materials prepared with different textile residue levels incorporated into high density polyethylene (HDPE) are presented and discussed. The composites were prepared from the mixture of high density polyethylene (HDPE) and textile residues (92% polyester fibers, 6.0% cotton/viscose, 0.7% wool/silk, 0.6% acetate/triacetate, 0.5% polyamide and 0.3% viscose) at increasing levels of 5 to 20%, in double-screw extruder, using Irganox 1010 (BASF) as antioxidant. The proof sheets for tensile, bending and impact tests were produced by injection molding and the results of the mechanical tests carried out led to the conclusion that the reuse of up to 10% of the residues from the knitting industries in mixtures with thermoplastic are viable, since they do not jeopardize the properties of the product.
