- Abstract
Viral hepatitis is among the major agents responsible for generating liver failure, because the contamination by HBV and HCV viruses are capable of generating chronic infections, their infections are capable of causing greater damage to the liver to the point that the disease develops into cancer or incites the process of liver cirrhosis. representing a problem of worldwide concern. This work aims to list the frequency of the number of hepatitis B and C cases in the Northern Region of Brazil, highlighting relevant epidemiological aspects such as the number of confirmed cases taking into consideration gender and age group. This is a retrospective cross-sectional observational study. This research used epidemiological notifications catalogued by SINAN available on the DATASUS platform. To perform the epidemiological analysis of viral hepatitis in the period from 2016 to 2020 the data collected were presented in the form of data exposure, graphs and tables. The largest number of cases is concentrated in the state of Amazonas, the gender with the highest frequency of cases were male people and the ranges that presented the highest frequency of cases were people aged 20 to 39 years. Therefore, it was possible to trace an epidemiological profile in the Northern Region of Brazil, and a total of 13.510 notified cases of hepatitis B and C could be observed in the period from 2016 to 2020, observing the highest frequency of cases in the state of Amazonas, the frequency of cases was higher in men with about 55% of cases and the two age groups with the highest frequency in the numbers of confirmed cases was among people aged 20-39 years.
