- Abstract
The article analyzes Spain's foreign policy towards Latin America during the Franco regime, highlighting the importance of this region for Spanish politics. It mentions notable works on the relations between Spain and Latin America during this period, as well as the common principles and guidelines that guided Franco's foreign policy. The work of ministers Alberto Martín-Artajo and Fernando María de Castiella in the evolution of this foreign policy is highlighted. The article also analyzes the change in the objectives of foreign policy during the consolidation stage of Francoism, as well as Spain's critical position towards US policy in the region. It mentions the fragility of Franco's foreign policy and the setback in relations with Latin America in the last years of the regime. Additionally, it examines the cultural and academic ties established by the Superior Council for Scientific Research (CSIC) with Hispanic America during the Franco regime, as well as the expansion of Opus Dei in Latin America and the Spanish pro-democratic diplomatic and intellectual actions in Argentina during Arturo Frondizi's government. Finally, it analyzes the relations between the Franco and Pinochet dictatorships, as well as the positions on abortion in both regimes.
