- Abstract
The article discusses the continuity and development of conspiracy theories, particularly the anti-Semitic ritual murder narrative, over different periods of time. Conspiracy theories allow producers and recipients to channel fears and attribute shortcomings to specific enemies. The article also emphasizes the importance of diachronic comparisons in understanding shifts in meaning within conspiracy theories. Examples of conspiracy narratives such as the "Jewish ritual murder narrative" are given, which have been widespread in Europe since the Middle Ages. The text also addresses the investigation of ritual murder legends in relation to conspiracy theories and mentions case studies such as Simon of Trent and Anderl of Rinn. It is noted that these stories were also exploited by the Nazis and that conspiracy theories and anti-Semitic narratives can continue to exist in the present day.
