- Abstract
The article focuses on the human capital theory and the educational attainment of women in India. The state of Kerala has achieved a top rating in women's literacy rates, but the unemployment rate among both men and women in Kerala is high. This study examines the "Kerala model" paradox and the state's social and cultural environment. Topics include gender relations, the benefit of education and occupational choice, the status of women in the labor market, and supply-and-demand economic theory. Research methods include analysis of data from the Census of India and the National Sample Survey Organization.
