- Title
Fractional Crystallization to Separate Radioactive Waste Successfully Demonstrated.
- Abstract
The article focuses on fractional crystallization, a process similar to that used to purify table salt, that could be used to separate radioactive waste. It is stated that the process is being considered as a possible pretreatment technology to separate such wastes in the underground tanks at the Hanford Site of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) in Washington into the two streams. Physical challenges at the site are mentioned, including plutonium in various forms.
