- Abstract
This study deals with the aspects of imitation and innovation in the poems of Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani that introduced his book of poetry and that he wrote in praise of the Prophet Mohammed (Blessings and Peace be Upon Him). Ibn Hajar was one of the most prominent scholars of his time, and he wrote poetry for various purposes. As Ibn Hajar was a reciter of the holy Quran and a scholar of its sciences and the sciences of the Prophet's Hadith, he simplified the word in praise of the Prophet (BPUH). Therefore, he came up with contents that abounded in references to the life of the Prophet, his miracles, the effects of his birth and his moral qualities as well as his battles. He also included the companions of the Prophet in his praise. He was often imitating the poets of his time, but again innovating objectively and artistically in other times. The study also examined the most prominent artistic features that characterized the poems that Ibn Hajar wrote in praise of the Prophet (BPUH). This includes the study of words, methods, artistic images, and similes in addition to other figures of speech and poem structure. The researcher found that Ibn Hajar frequently imitated the poets of his time, but made some innovations especially in relation to the structure of the poetic text which was evident through the analysis of his works.
