- Abstract
The article explores censorship of Casas del Fandango, mixed-gender dance venues, during the late colonial period in Mexico. The author considers the gender roles of men and women in pair dancing carried out in the Casas del Fandango. The author discusses the prohibition of mixed-gender dancing and the censorship of activities which were associated with bodily enjoyment, especially for women.
