- Abstract
The article reports on the use of stirling engines for residential combined heat and power systems (RCPH). An overview of the engine operation of the stirling engines is discussed, as well as the features of its two main categories which are the kinematic stirling engines (KSE) and the free-piston stirling engines (FPSE). It notes that the energy saving potential of the stirling engines integrated with RCPH system must not only reduce energy consumption but also recover and use large portion of the waste heat supplant space and hot water heating loads while generating relatively small quantity of electricity. An overview of the marketing potential of Sterling engine is also discussed.
