- Abstract
To provide scientific basis for the development of Bletilla striata polysaccharides, the physicochemical properties and antioxidant, hygroscopic and moisturizing effects were compared between fractional-alcohol-precipitated polysaccharides (BSP-30, BSP-50 andBSP-70) and crude polysaccharides (BSPs). The results of sugar content showed that BSP-70 > BSP-50 > BSP-30 ≈ BSPs. The total sugar content of BSP-70 was 56.09%. The protein concentration in BSP-70 was 0.003 56 mg/mL, which was the lowest. The pH values of crude polysaccharides and fractional-alcohol-precipitated polysaccharides were all neutral. At 10 mg/mL, the viscosity of BSP-30 > BSP-50 > BSP-70, in which the viscosity of BSP-70 was 4 mPa·s. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) 50 000X showed that the surface of BSP-30 was smooth and compact, and there were many pores of different size in BSP-50 and BSP-70. The results showed that BSP-70 had stronger scavenging effect on DPPH free radical (27.0%), ·OH free radical (59.2%) and ABTS free radical (20.9%) than BSPs at the concentration of 1 mg/mL. The test results of hygroscopicity and moisture retention showed that, under RH=43% and RH=81%, the values of maximum hygroscopicity of BSP-70 were 14% and 33%, respectively; BSP-30 and BSP-50 had higher moisturizing ability than BSPs, and BSP-30 was comparable to hyaluronic acid. This study provided some reference for the development and application of Bletilla striata polysaccharides as cosmetic materials.
