- Title
Contact allergy to benzyl alcohol in a cutting oil reodorant.
- Authors

- Abstract
This article presents a case of a 28-year-old metal grinder, who developed an itchy patchy rash of the finger webs and dorsa of the hands, which spread to the arms, face, thighs and feet. When he stopped the work, the rash cleared. A positive reaction to the undiluted oil is not interpreted as allergic, but is an indication of the need to test the individual ingredients. Balsam of Peru has been reported as a sensitizer in cutting oils. Benzyl alcohol is a constituent of balsam of Peru, but its role in these cases is purely speculative.
