- Title
Alcohol, drugs, and the adolescent brain.
- Authors
Hart, Hilary
- Abstract
The author comments on the potential neurotoxic effects of substance ingestion on young people. According to the author, while the adolescent brain may be at increased sensitivity to the neurotoxic properties of addictive drugs, at the same time it may be less sensitive to the behavioural effects of drugs, allowing young people to use substances at higher doses and for longer periods than their adult counterparts. He stresses the need for information from further neurobiological research to inform public policy and intervention.
