- Abstract
The article discusses Anne Bonzon's book, "La paix au village: Clergé paroissial et règlement des conflits dans la France d'Ancien Régime," which explores the peacemaking efforts of priests in France during the seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries. Bonzon examines various sources, including normative literature and diaries of priests, to understand the role of the clergy in settling disputes and promoting peace. The research sheds light on the Counter-Reformation and its impact on the lives of the laity. However, the article also highlights the limitations of the sources and suggests that the efforts of priests may not have always been successful or welcomed by the community.
