The author presents insight on the use of opportunistic salpingectomy to reduce ovarian cancer risk. Topics discussed include the rank of ovarian cancer as the most common cancer and most common cause of cancer deaths, the importance of early detection of ovarian cancer to reduce the impact of the disease on women's health and the use of bilateral salpingo-oopherectomy (BSO) for high-risk women. Also mentioned is the goal of opportunistic salpingectomy.
