- Abstract
Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) is a condition that affects a large part of the global population and is characterized by the progressive obstruction of the arteries in the lower extremities. It has been found that risk factors and lifestyle can produce epigenetic changes that influence the development of PAD. People who adopt healthy behaviors, such as exercising, having a good diet, and quitting smoking, induce epigenetic changes that affect the expression of miRNA, DNA methylation, and histone modification, processes involved in PAD. Epigenetics suggests the need for new strategies to prevent, treat, and care for healthy behaviors in order to improve people's quality of life and reduce the burden of this disease.
