- Abstract
The article reports on populations of birds of prey in Amchitka Island, Alaska. Populations of peregrine falcons and bald eagles are affected by pesticide diseases in other areas. Researchers are drawn to study birds of prey in the Amchitka due to its remoteness and its healthy bird populations. The authors confirmed the three eyries reported by previous researchers and argues that there are more to be discovered. They report that there are more bald eagles than peregrines that breed on the island. They also observed that peregrines and eagles remain on the island during winter. An overview of the study is provided.
