- Abstract
The article focuses on the various initiatives to address environmental issues. It discusses the new protocol on integrated coastal zone management (ICZM), the goals for the environmental sustainability in the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) regions, and the carbon price signal created from the European Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS). ICZM aims to improve integrated coastal governance and sustain development of coastal zones. Goals of the ESCWA regions include developing and implementing energy conservation policies and promulgating adequate environmental legislation. Meanwhile, ETS carbon price signal was created to deliver emissions reductions associated with European economic activity. Barriers for the implementation of these initiatives are also discussed.
