- Title
CASTES OF EXCEPTION: TRADITION AND THE PUBLIC SPHERE IN THE PRIVATE MEMOIRS AND CONFESSIONS OF A JUSTIFIED SINNER.
- Authors
STOUT, DANIEL
- Abstract
A literary criticism of the book "The Private Memoirs and Confessions of a Justified Sinner" by James Hogg is presented. It focuses on Hogg's treatment of Calvinism, and the ways in which the novel can be read as a critique of romantic nationalism. A tension between authentic folklore and the antiquarian impulse to collect it is also discussed in this context.
