- Abstract
The article discusses a study which examined the infection rates of Rickettsia parkeri and Candidatus Rickettsia andeanae in Gulf Coast ticks in Mississippi. Data was gathered from adult ticks during the 2008-10 period. Polymerase chain reaction was used to test for spotted fever group Rickettsia (SFGR). Results of the study showed that 18.3% of ticks tested positive for SFGR deoxyribonucleic acid. It also found that more ticks were infected with Rickettsia andeanae in southern sites.
