The article discusses the regulation of the European Union's (EU's) financial product design process as of April 2013, focusing on the legal and compliance risks that banks should be aware of. The British Financial Service Authority's outline of key product design responsibilities is addressed, along with banking industry government regulatory frameworks and the efforts of the European Commission and the European Parliament. The EU's 2004 Market in Financial Instruments Directive is mentioned.
