- Abstract
The article presents the results from a study conducted by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on the activity of the respiratory syncytial virus in the U.S. The virus is a major cause of lower respiratory tract infections in young U.S. children and can also cause respiratory disease and death in older adults and people with poor respiratory, cardiac, or immune systems. Virus activity peaks in the winter in temperate climates. Data on respiratory syncytial virus activity was achieved from the National Respiratory and Enteric Virus Surveillance System.
