- Abstract
The article compares several large scale drug trials on hypertension. The author asks questions about hypertension, specifically whether hypertension drug trials are designed to help doctors choose the right drugs for patients, or if they are "commercial speech," designed to make the drug companies look good by putting their products up against other inferior drugs. The author praises proposals by journal editors to register clinical trials, so that doctors can see which trials were not published that may have had unfavorable results. The article also presents a chart that compares the following trials: LIFE, 2002; VALUE, 2004; INVEST, 2003; and ASCOT, 2003.
