- Title
Preserving Pennsylvania's Civil War Muster Rolls.
- Authors
RIES, LINDA A.
- Abstract
The article discusses the preservation of muster rolls of regimental units raised in Pennsylvania during the U.S. Civil War at the Pennsylvania State Archives. According to the article, the archives began conserving muster out rolls in October 2005, which were distributed by the U.S. government to the armed forces in the Northern states. The article states that the forms contained various columns to record information such as name, age, and enlistment data. The article states that the Pennsylvania state's adjutant general's office utilized the information contained in the rolls to verify claims by veterans or their widows. The author argues that the rolls at the archives differ from Pennsylvania muster out rolls at the U.S. National Archives.
