- Abstract
The article discusses the collaboration of British golf course architect Alister MacKenzie and American social reformer Robert Hunter on a series of course design and construction projects in California in the late 1920s. MacKenzie's background in England is discussed, including his Scottish heritage, medical training, military experience, and work on British golf courses. Hunter's background in Indiana is also discussed, including his interest in social work and reform legislation, and his later interest in golf. The golf courses on which the two men collaborated are then discussed.
