- Abstract
We evaluated the possibility that citrus intercropping with other fruit trees and corn reduces D. citri populations, by measuring bimonthly the incidence of nymphs and adults of the Asian citrus psyllid from 2017 to 2019, in four citrus orchards: one was a monoculture (Mexican lemon), and three polycultures (Mexican lemon + corn; orange + mango, and grapefruit + mango). Considering data for both nymphs and adults of D. citri over the three consecutive years, and under the conditions of these field trials (naturally established setting and conventional farmer management), the recorded counts of nymphs and adults of D. citri across the four crop systems showed that there was no consistently lower population of D. citri in any of the polyculture crops compared to lemon monoculture, indicating that none of the three intercropping was a helpful agronomical measure to reduce the D. citri population.
