- Abstract
The article focuses on the history of Fort Marcy Military Reservation in Santa Fe, New Mexico between 1846 and 1904. The author explains that Fort Marcy played an important part in several conflicts including the Taos Revolt of 1847, the U.S. Civil War, and the Spanish-American War. He explores the hostilities between the U.S. Army and the Navajo and Jicarilla Apache Indians within the region, examines several battles that took place at the fort during the 19th century, and discusses military personnel who oversaw or fought at the post, including General Stephen Watts Kearny, General James Carleton, and Colonel Christopher Carson.
