- Title
Los primeros pasos de Felipe V en España: Los deseos, los recelos y las primeras tensiones.
- Authors
GARCÍA-BADELL ARIAS, Luis María
- Abstract
The article discusses the initial stages of the rule of King Philip V of Spain. It affirms that initial actions taken by Philip V to ensure continuity between his rule and that of the previous king, Charles II, would seem to have calmed fears among Spaniards at the prospect of being ruled by a monarch of French origin. However, it notes, the creation of a small advisory body, which included the French ambassador, to assist Philip V aroused suspicion. The article examines other controversial aspects of Philip V's rule, including endowing French dukes with the same status as Spanish "Grandes," the introduction of French elements into Spanish royal etiquette, and other measures which betrayed the primacy of French interests in the monarchy of Philip V.
