- Abstract
This article discusses a study which applied unstructured translation-initiation sequences to enable protein synthesis in cell extracts from multiple organisms. The study used fluorescence correlation and cross-correlation spectroscopies to demonstrate protein interactions. It demonstrated the ability to activate protein synthesis in extracts of nearly every organism. It illustrated some methods that can be used as a source of naturally produced proteins and be applied to elucidating metabolic and regulatory pathways and mechanisms.
