WHY DO THEY DO IT?: THE MOTIVES, MORES, AND CHARACTER OF WHITE COLLAR CRIMINALS.
- Authors
Bucy, Pamela H.; Formby, Elizabeth P.; Raspanti, Marc S.; Rooney, Kathryn E.
- Abstract
This article attempts to answer the reasons why talented, bright, highly educated and successful people risk their achievements by lying, stealing and cheating, particularly when what they are stealing is not much compared to what they have. To answer this questions, extensive interviews were conducted by the authors. Among the people interviewed were seasoned prosecutors and accomplished defense counsel in the U.S. The authors also explore the views and perceptions traditionally held about white collar criminals. The study found out that white collar criminals fall into two primary groups, the leaders and the followers. It suggests that effective corporate compliance is key to preventing white collar crime.
