- Abstract
Objective: To observe and document the variations in the extensor muscles of hand muscle. Material and Methods: The hand of a 60-year-old male formalin fixed cadaver in the dissection hall at the department of Anatomy, AIIMS. Results: Multiple variations in the tendons of muscles in the extensor compartment of the forearm (extensor digitorum, Extensor indices, abductor pollicis longus and extensor pollicis longus). These tendons exhibited additional slips with deviation in the pattern of insertion. Conclusion: An understanding of such additional tendons may be clinically relevant in describing various abnormal symptoms and swellings in the hand and wrist region in addition to playing a pivotal role in planning of restorative surgical procedures.
